There is a large number of novels that we have not read simply because there is not enough time; however, the AP English Literature and Composition exam given in May every year contains many titles that we need to be familiar with in order to be successful. This project will allow each cohort the opportunity to become familiar with some of these titles. In addition, this site will serve as a resource for those taking the exam to study the most cited titles. Although, this list is not extensive of every title ever used on the exam, this is a good start.
Each cohort has an assigned group of literature prose titles from the most cited on the AP Literature Exam from 1970-2011. On the left side is a page for each cohort with the assigned titles listed. Each page should contain the following information.
A. Click on the tab for your cohort to view the assigned literature prose titles.
B. For each title, write a summary of the piece of literature in at least 250 words.
C. For each title, identify and provide an analysis for the most important characters in at least 150 words each (not what they look like or minor information - what they do, importance to the work, etc.).
D. For each title, describe the setting - where and when the work takes place, historical context - in at least 250 words.
E. For each title, identify the type of conflicts (man v man, man v self, man v society, man v nature, man v technology) and describe each.
F. For each title, identify the major themes - at least 3 - with a brief description of how these are portrayed - about two sentences for each theme.
G. For each title, include 3 major symbols with a description of what they symbolize and the importance to the piece of literature.
H. Include one relevant image and one relevant video for each title.
I. Include a "Works Cited" section at the bottom of your cohort's page in which all referenced resources are cited in MLA format - written resources and images/videos. Failure to include the MLA citation will result in a "0" grade for your entire cohort.
This counts as a project grade and is due Friday, March 29th. I will begin checking this website at the end of the school day - 3:30 - to verify all cohort information here, and editing privileges will be turned off.
