Henry IV part i and part ii

Summary:
King Henry’s son Prince Harry is in with the wrong crowd, but this is all part of his plan. Since everyone thinks he is bad now when he does something nobel everyone will respect him. Harry gets his chance to show that he is a good guy when Hotspur and his family plan to overthrow the king. When they go to war Harry saves his father’s life, which gains back his father’s approval and his affection from the others. During this civil war King Henry becomes increasingly ill, his eldest son, Prince Harry is formally crowned King Henry V by the end of the war.
Character analysis:
King Henry IV: The king of England. He is an older man with a lot of worries. His worries and stress have aged him and made him ill. What he mainly worries about is his son Prince Harry and what is going to be the outcome in this civil war. By the end of the play he dies and his son is crowned the next King of England.
Prince Harry/King Henry V: The next heir to the throne. Is a troubled young man and has been hanging out with the wrong crowd. He really turns his life around during this war and shows what a noble guy he really is. He gains back the respect of his family and the common people and by the end of the play he is crowned the new King of England.
Conflicts:
The conflicts in this story are man v man and man v self. The conflict of man v man comes in with the civil war, this is exactly what is sounds like men fighting/killing other men. The conflict of man v self comes in with Prince Harry, he has to change the person he is and show his father and the others that he is a good person and is not the troublesome kid everyone thinks he is and who he actually has become.
Themes:
Honor; at first Prince Harry is not very highly honored by anyone, not even his father. King Henry wants his son to change his ways and become more honorable before he dies and can’t help him anymore.
War; one of the focal points in this story is the civil war that they are fighting. This story begins and ends with the war and a lot of things change because of this war.
Family; everything in this story comes back to family. Mainly Prince Harry’s family and the people he views as family figures is very big within this story because he causes big changes, good and bad.
Symbols:
The sun; both King Henry and Prince Harry refer to themselves as the sun obscured by clouds.
The characters themselves; the characters symbolize so much within themselves rather than many things in this story symbolizing certain things.
