RICHARD III
Summary:
Richard is a malicious man and kills anyone who might take his throne. He uses his intelligence and power to manipulate people, like his wife Lady Anne. He has a strategy to become the next heir to the throne and this strategy is to kill anyone who gets in his way or to marry anyone he needs to, even his cousin Elizabeth. Everything doesn’t work out as planned for Richard when Richmond invades England and Richard is killed then Richmond is announced King Henry VII and marries Queen Elizabeth.
Character analysis:
Richard III: Also known as the duke of Glouester. Richard was mentally twisted, he is a main character in the play and is known as the villian. He is evil and manipulative and will stop at nothing to become king.
Queen Elizabeth: was the wife of King Edward IV until he was murdered by King Richard, then she went on to marry him. She is the mother of two young princesses and their older sister young Elizabeth. After the death of Richard she goes on to marry Richmond, who becomes KIng Henry VII.
Conflicts:
The conflicts in this story are man v man, this is shown because Richard is destroying every man or woman who gets in his way of inheriting the throne. He is willing to kill or marry anyone as long as it helps him.
Themes:
Evil is a major theme in this story. This story revolves around murder and back stabbing, anything that will help an individual out, especially Richard.
Manipulation; Richard III manipulates everyone he comes in contact with, his family, his wife, his friends. The whole story is Richard manipulating someone to get closer to the throne.
Power; Richard III is struggling to get and hold on to political power and power of the country.
Symbols:
The Boar; this is the main symbol in this story because Richard III is referred to as “the boar” all throughout the story. The boar meaning he is a fierce and hideous creature.
